VINTAGE 2025

After another winter with an abundance of rain (more than long term average), our vineyards had a slightly later budburst in spring 2024. Seasonal climate and wine production goes hand in hand as everybody knows.  During the spring and early summer we had intermitted light rainfall until the end of October 2024.  For the rest of summer conditions were optimal for berry and canopy development. Our grapes went through veraison quickly and ripening was on track for a very good vintage: Slow and steady with very good climatic conditions.

Despite some rainy days during flowering and berry set, no negative impact was noticed on berry set and bunch formation. The summer went on without any significant rain until the end of harvest.  We were once again fortunate to have supplementary irrigation available to support our grapes to ripen slowly & perfectly. Bunch and berry selection is non-negotiable for us to ensure the delicate, fresh and natural qualities in our wines.

2025 vintage on Normandie Est. 1693, was a magnificent one from a grape and wine quality perspective. Perfect conditions during harvest time gave us ample opportunity to harvest each lot at an optimal ripeness level to create yet another range of very special red blends!  In our continuous pursuit to produce the ultimate red blend, we relentlessly sorted and selected clusters and berries once again in the vineyards and during/after de-stemming to create yet another extraordinary vintage of Eisen & Viljoen. Our yield was 32 hectolitres per hectare in this extraordinary vintage on Normandie Estate. The Eisen & Viljoen 2025 vintage promises to be one of the best… tight, concentrated, complex and so well balanced.
